Bob Schumacher began his credit union career at the Credit Union National Association in Madison, Wisconsin in 1977. He started in the Convention Services Department but quickly moved to the Credit Union National Advertising Program that same year where he worked for nearly 9 years.
Bob was hired away from CUNA by the Washington Credit Union League in 1985 where he became the COO of the League’s Service Corporation, League Services, Inc (LSI). In 1989, he spent two years at the Florida Credit Union League before moving back to the Seattle area in 1991, working with a CUSO for several years. He then moved back into a position with LSI in 1993.
Bob was a principal partner in The Paragon Consulting Group where he specialized in providing strategic planning focus, direction and facilitation with more than 200 credit unions over his career. Bob also emceed many local, regional and national credit union conventions and conferences – a duty that he still enjoys performing to this day.
Bob was hired as Vice President for the Snohomish County PUD Credit Union (now named MountainCrest Credit Union) in Everett, Washington in 1996. He became only the third CEO of the credit union in May of 2001 where he is today. Bob’s credit union career spans nearly 34 years, most of which has been in credit union trade associations.He is also one of seven recipients of the CUNA Marketing Council’s Hall of Fame Award which he was presented in 2002 for lifetime credit union marketing achievement and recognition. In 2006, he was awarded the Washington Credit Union League’s Ambassador Award for his credit union work locally, state-wide, regionally and internationally.
Bob was certified as a Credit Union Development Educator in 2001. He has also worked with the World Council of Credit Unions on their CUES Philippines Project, twice providing training, education and credit union development facilitation on Mindanao in the Philippines. He is one of the first Development Educators (Class of 2001) in the world to receive the designation as an International Credit Union Development Educator which he received from the NCUF and WOCCU in August of 2009. Bob helped create and chaired the first ever International Development Committee at the credit union League level, this in 2001. He served on the Washington Credit Union League Foundation for 7 years, the last two of which he chaired.
Bob also served as a Board member of the prestigious National Credit Union Foundation. He served on the Northwest Corporate Federal Credit Union’s Board, the Snohomish County Junior Achievement Board and the Washington Credit Union League’s Awards Committee. He also serves as Chair of the National Credit Union Foundation’s Awards and Recognition Committee and is a member of their Fundraising Committee. He is currently serving as a Board member of the FSCC shared branching network. Bob has also been the emcee of the NCUF’s celebrated Herb Wegner Memorial Awards ceremony for 14 years.
Bob is married to Diane, his wife of 25 years, enjoys music, cooking and sings in a barbershop quartet which he has done since he was 15 years old.
